DEC 30: Make it Mariko 5-Year Anniversary Party!

HELLO DECEMBER💜💛 What a year 2020 has been for us all. We’re reflecting back on where @makeitmariko was at in March before the first shutdown happened — Before we *lost 81% of all our income*, and before all live events were canceled for the year.⁠
⁠
Here we are now in December — We were able to pivot our business model to virtual events by partnering with our event brother @rjkoolraul, save our small business and our employees, and even enjoy a tiny bit of growth while at it. We’re SO incredibly thankful for it all, knowing that so many other event businesses were not as fortunate. 

On Weds December 30th, we’re so GRATEFUL to be able to celebrate:⁠

Launching UNDSCVRD Markets @ Sunday Streets During a Pandemic

COMMUNITY.
We all need it. As humans, we’re not meant to be this alone and isolated.
 
I’ve been living under a pretty strict quarantine with my husband and dog Mochi for exactly 176 days (I’ve kept a calendar). Like so many in the beginning, I scrolled furiously on my phone reading article after article every day to learn the latest on coronavirus #s, trends, discoveries, and theories. Everything was so uncertain, and it was hard to know who to believe in the media. I didn’t realize it at first, because it was like a slow burn, but it all got to me.
 
– It made me scared, angry, and uncertain.
– It made me start to see people as viruses, instead of human beings.
– It made me judgmental of others who weren’t following the rules.

Bluxome Center Venue Recap

Located in the heart of San Francisco’s up-and-coming South of Market neighborhood, Bluxome Center is a community space founded by real estate company Alexandria Real Estate that celebrates the potential of young minds by hosting educational programs and events. A Vision for the Future: Balay Kreative Launch Party

In July of 2019, Make it Mariko teamed up with our nonprofit partner Kultivate Labs and won a $250K grant from the Mayor’s Office of Housing and Community Development (MOHCD) to plan a series of pop up events to strategize for a future Filipino American Arts & Culture Center, Balay Kreative. We’ve been hard at work strategizing for this project as well as going through a series of community trainings called “Trauma Informed Systems” work so that we can better serve our entire community.
