In July of 2019, Make it Mariko teamed up with our nonprofit partner Kultivate Labs and won a $250K grant from the Mayor’s Office of Housing and Community Development (MOHCD) to plan a series of pop up events to strategize for a future Filipino American Arts & Culture Center, Balay Kreative. We’ve been hard at work strategizing for this project as well as going through a series of community trainings called “Trauma Informed Systems” work so that we can better serve our entire community. 2019 was filled with so many incredible milestones for the Make It Mariko team. This was a special event for us because it was a celebration of the new decade, Gina’s birthday, and the 4th anniversary of Make It Mariko. On her 30th birthday, Gina created Make It Mariko as a gift to herself. Over the years, the team has grown and evolved and we’re excited to see what this new decade has in store for us!
To celebrate the start of a new decade, we threw our first ever New Year’s Eve party! We collaborated with our Undiscovered event partners 7th West and Creative Transit Agency plus Full Out Studios to pull off this amazing celebration. Read More

On Sunday, October 6th we hosted our FIRST EVER second day of the Entrepinays Summit – an addition that emerged as part of the feedback we received from last year! The 2nd season of UNDISCOVERED SF was such a blur — an amazing blur — that we didn’t have time to write or post about it until it was over! As the Co-Founders of UNDISCOVERED SF, San Francisco’s only creative night market that showcases the rising talent of the Filipinx-American community from the Bay Area and beyond. Make it Mariko was excited to take on several new production challenges to expand from our successful first season. From 3rd wave Filipinx food and desserts, handcrafted accessories and threads, and underground artists breaking into the music and art scenes, this seasonal gathering is a celebration of history, culture, and identity.Read More
2018 was an epic year for Make it Mariko for many reasons. First off, it was my first year going FULL TIME with Make it Mariko. Since quitting, Make it Mariko has been thriving and expanding our reach in the community, and we’re so thankful!Read More
What an incredible day out in the sun! Bluxome Street Fair was greeted by a clear sky and great energy on Sunday October 14th.
Recently we helped our client, Alexandria Real Estate, to launch a new community center on Bluxome Street as part of their community outreach plan. To celebrate the launch of the new center, along with the amazing Bluxome Street businesses, we partnered with Plinth Agency to come up with a NEW event called Bluxome Street Fair. Neighboring businesses and even the fire station opened up shop and showcased their goods and services. Many of our community partners also joined us with booths along the street, including San Franciscans for Sports and Recreation, Bay Area Science Festival, Getaround, Hellofresh, and Xfinity.Read More
